Who Is ELevation?

 
 

 

Elevation Church of the Eastern Sierra is a new gathering in West Reno, where those who don’t like “organized” religion - and those who do – can feel at home.  Our aim is to be a missional community that faithfully lives out the message of Jesus in worship, community and culture; and teaches all of Scripture, not just the parts we "like", as the authoritative Word of God.  We don't pull any punches.  Our one, overriding passion is to Elevate the name of Jesus in all that we are and all that we do, so that people far from God will be filled with life in Christ.  Sound intriguing?  You owe it to yourself to check Elevation out.  

 

What is ELevation?
 
Elevation is more than a building, an institution, a social club, a weekly meeting or a man. We are a group of missionaries, a gathering of diverse individuals united by a common bond in Jesus Christ, who strive to live life on mission for Him daily.     
     
We hope that you’ll find Elevation to be a place where those disillusioned with religion can find a deeper relationship with God, and where those unfamiliar with faith can discover the saving, transforming power and love of Jesus Christ. Because we believe the Church of Jesus Christ should shape culture, instead of running from it or chasing it, we celebrate the arts and look for creative ways to engage our culture. We are willing to cross traditional lines and take significant risks to bring Jesus into the public square. At Elevation, our desire is to build an authentic community of faith that raises up generations of devoted followers of Jesus - in order to see the ongoing redemption and transformation of people and culture in our City and World, by the power of the Holy Spirit through the work of the Gospel.   Simply put, we gather in response to Christ’s love to learn of the majesty and mercy of our great God, to follow Him and make him known to all. Sound good? Join us.
 
why ELevation?
 

 

The word "elevate" means to raise up or promote.  In life, we instinctively elevate things that we believe will bring us happiness, pleasure, significance or meaning.  Too often, however, the things we elevate will not last and offer no real meaning or hope.  Jesus came to fix all of that by adjusting our perspective.  He said that by looking to Him, we can have rest, peace, joy, strength, significance and life in abundance, if we are willing to elevate Him to His rightful place of God and Savior in our lives.  When He left earth, after resurrecting from the grave, Jesus was "taken up to Heaven", leaving us no longer with a horizontal view fixated on the suffering servant, but instead with an upward, elevated perspective of Him as the exalted, eternal, almighty King.  When we shift focus off of ourselves and the things around us in the horizontal realm, and truly elevate our perspective to Jesus as King, the connection with our creator is restored and we gain abundant life filled with hope, meaning and truth.
