are you just evolved goo?

"In the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth...", writes Moses to open the account of how it all began.  Many people claiming to be scientists have, over the centuries, attempted to "look back in time" to determine exactly when and how everything came to be.  In addition to the many benefits, there are numerous problems that can arise from this pursuit.  I'd like to discuss two of them in this space:

1) Proximity.  In order to be 100% accurate about what happened in the beginning - and when it happened - the person describing it had to be there.  That's why eye-witness testimony is the most valuable evidence in a court of law.  I someone had seen O.J. attacking Ron and Nicole; he'd be on Death Row.  Digging into rock layers and peering through telescopes can render some great and entertaining theories of origins, but it will never produce anything close to an eye-witness account.  The scientists were not there, but God was.

2) Geology.  Theories of evolution are immutably anchored in the notion that the earth and the universe are billions of years old.  As long as those ideas hold sway, evolutionary theory loses no steam, no matter how many fraudulent "missing links" are exposed.  "If there is enough time", so goes the battle cry, "evolution is possible."  The difficulty is that measurements of time are taken from rocks with Geiger counters, and the result is governed by the assumption of uniformity in geology.  In other words the scientist assumes that geologic processes (rock formation, sedimentation, erosion, etc.) have been happening at about (or maybe exactly) the same rate and in the same manner since the beginning of time.  This assumption completely ignores the fact that there was a cataclysmic global flood that utterly and massively altered the entire surface of the planet...in about a year.  Mountain ranges rose, canyons and valleys fell, continents split thousands of miles apart - all in one trip around the sun.  The evolutionary scientist observes these kinds of things in the modern world, and the very slow rate at which they happen, and is like someone who observes the last outer rings of a ripple in a pond slowly reaching the shore, but never understands that the ripple was caused by a very large rock thrown into the center of the pond only moments before.  Appearance of age does not equal age.  My 65 year old father-in-law has a full head of mostly brown hair.  On the other hand, one of my good friends was totally grey and half bald at 33.

For someone to tell you that you are evolved goo, instead of Jesus' loving handiwork, requires at least two things for them to not be completely delusional.  First, they had to be there to see, or have eyewitness testimony about, the goo first forming into more complex goo that eventually led to you.  They weren't there, and no such testimony exists outside of the Bible - not even close (though they'll tell you it does).

Second, there needed to be enough time for the goo to eventually turn into you.  Because of the massive upheaval of Noah's flood, it is impossible to measure the age of rocks using Geiger counters.  Evolutionists deny this flood, but the fact that places like Mt. Everest are covered with sedimentary rock and have fossilized sea animals near the top, pretty much prove that it did happen.  Also, it is well known that the radioactive and non-radioactive "sides" of the elements measured in dating fossils and rocks (e.g. C12 and C14) are in a state of disequilibrium (there's more of one side in the atmosphere than the other).  The manner in which these elements are out of equilibrium causes the Geiger counters to make things appear much older than they really are.  Billions of years is just a theory - one that in today's era of scientific advancement, is much closer to fantasy.

Why do bad things happen - evil things?  It's true that even Christians do bad things - sometimes very bad - but it's also axiomatic that the underlying motivation for doing bad things, regardless of faith, or what makes that motivation possible, is a failure by people to fully grasp the fact that they actually were created by Jesus for a special purpose.  If you believe that you are nothing more than evolved goo, with no objective moral standard to guide you and no sovereign, loving, heavenly Savior and King to follow, bad things become much easier to do and hopelessness and despair find little opposition in your belief system.  Thankfully, though, we do have an eyewitness account of the beginning of everything...of creation.  It's called Genesis.  God is the eyewitness, He told Moses how it all began, and Moses wrote it all down.  Genesis speaks of a special creation - fully mature animal species and fully mature people (no transitional forms) - that was performed quickly (6 days, not 4 billion years).  Flip on over to the New Testament and we see that Jesus was the one doing the creating.  How this all should hit home with you is that again, thankfully, you know that Jesus did create you, and He did set eternity in your heart, so that you might seek after him.  Because of that there is hope, there is justice, there is mercy, love and purpose.  Evolution offers none of that.  Jesus offers it all, because He is the source of everything.
